About Christian Brothers University

Christian Brothers University, or CBU for short, is a private university in Memphis, which is a city in southwest Tennessee state, USA, which serves as the county seat of Shelby County, with a population approximated at a number of over 670 000 inhabitants, fact which makes it the largest city in the state, the 3rd largest one in Southeastern USA, and the 19th largest one in the US.

Christian Brothers was established in 1871 and it is the oldest collegiate degree-granting institution in Memphis. It was founded by members of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, who came to Memphis at the request of the people and clergy of the city, after more than a decade of efforts to persuade the Brothers to open a college.

Today, the university has an enrollment of approximately 1800 students and offers educational programs in various areas of study, at varied degree levels.

Athletics

CBU's athletic teams are known as the Buccaneers and Lady Buccaneers, and they compete in NCAA Division II. Their distinctive colors are scarlet and grey, and their mascot is Bucky the Buccaneer.
